Relax

Your Way into Oral Health

Part of our exclusive dental experience at Smile Studio of Spring Lake is creating a luxurious and relaxing environment, but we know some people may need a little more support to fully relax. If the idea of dental treatment makes you nervous or anxious, we deliver personalized sedation plans to help you settle in while we perform your dental treatment.

Who Can Benefit From

Sedation?

Sedation isn’t only for patients with severe dental anxiety. Any patient who experiences apprehension at the dentist may benefit from our personalized approach to sedation. It can make the experience easier, more comfortable, and less taxing, no matter your level of anxiety. You may benefit from sedation if you:

  • Fear of needles or shots
  • Experienced a traumatic dental visit in the past
  • Struggle with the smells or noises of being at a dentist's office
  • Have overly sensitive teeth, a strong gag reflex, or trouble getting numb
  • Require a more complex dental treatment
  • Feel self-conscious about your teeth
  • Desire a more comfortable dental treatment

If you said yes to any of these, please talk with our Smile Studio team about sedation dentistry. We’re here to do what we can to ensure you have the most relaxing and comfortable experience possible.

Personalized Sedation Solutions

Every patient is unique and experiences different levels of dental anxiety. At Smile Studio of Spring Lake, we work together with each patient to determine the sedation approach that best meets their needs, comfort level, and treatment.

We offer the following sedation options for a safe, comfort-driven, elite experience.

IV Sedation

Dr. Jay Patel is board-certified by the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology to deliver IV sedation at Smile Studio of Spring Lake. This is the deepest level of sedation and will ensure the most relaxing experience. Dr. Patel gently inserts an I.V. line into a vein in your arm. This line delivers a steady flow of medication to keep you unconscious throughout treatment. You will wear an oxygen mask to ensure proper breathing, and we will closely monitor your vital signs while you rest easy. This more advanced form of sedation allows patients to have complete ease and comfort throughout the entire procedure.

Oral Sedation

For patients who may be uncomfortable with IV Sedation or Nitrous Oxide, we also offer sedation that can take by mouth in the form of a pill. Dr. Scheddin will provide a prescription pill to make you feel drowsy and relaxed. Depending on the patient and the sedative, oral sedation may lead to sleep during treatment. After the treatment is completed, it may take the rest of the day for the sedation effects to wear off.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide sedation, also known as "laughing gas," is commonly used to make treatment more comfortable and patients less anxious. Dr. Scheddin gently place a mask over your nose and mouth, asking you to breathe deeply. In a few short moments, anxiety is replaced with relaxation. This simple sedation method offers the least amount of risk, and any side effects vanish as soon as the mask comes off.

IS SEDATION DENTISTRY

SAFE?

Administered by our team of trained professionals, sedation dentistry has been proven to be safe and effective for dental treatment. Without sedation, patient’s blood pressure tends to rise, and anxious behaviors may cause treatment to be left incomplete. With sedation, studies show that treatment becomes safer by reducing blood pressure and ensuring a complete procedure.

HOW MUCH TIME IS REQUIRED FOR

RECOVERY?

Recovery time from sedation is dependent upon the method used. Because sedation causes drowsiness, we always recommend that you arrange transportation to and from your treatment. After sedation, you should not drive, drink alcohol, or operate machinery.
